The Hague (Den Haag) is
the third-largest city in
the Netherlands after
Amsterdam and
Rotterdam. It is located in the west of the
country, in the province South Holland, of which it is also the provincial
capital. City life concentrates around the Hofvijver and the Binnenhof, which is where the Parliament is located. The city has many civil servants and diplomats. In fact, the number and variety of foreign residents (especially the expats) makes the city culturally quite diverse, with many foreign pubs, shops and cultural events. The older parts of the town usually have characteristically wide and long streets. Houses are generally low-rise (not more than 4 floors), and quite elegant. The layout of the city is more spacious than other Dutch cities. There are only a few canals in The Hague, as most of them were drained in the late 1800s.

Summertime in The Hague means enjoying cultural events, concerts, art exhibits, a night out at the theatre, shopping in the city centre, or blowing away the cobwebs and enjoying the sun at Scheveningen beach. After a bracing walk at the seaside and a drink in one of the many nice cafés on the boulevard in Kijkduin, or a wonderful dinner in the centre of town, you can choose from a wide range of things to do in The Hague. The Hague is a wonderful city full of life, all year round!
